A Fall Family Session at Mount Rainier | Washington Family Photographer.

There’s something about fall at Mount Rainier that feels a little bit like magic.

The air gets crisp, the mountainsides turn shades of deep red and gold, and everything seems to slow down just enough to notice it. For this family session, we wandered through the fall colors as the sun started dipping behind the trees, letting the girls explore, cuddle up with mom and dad, and simply be themselves.

And honestly? That’s exactly how I want family photos to feel.

Family Photos That Feel Like You

Family sessions don’t have to mean everyone perfectly posed and smiling at the camera.

Especially with little ones.

Some of my favorite photographs from this evening came from the in-between moments—the girls being held by their parents, little arms wrapped around shoulders, mom carrying one while the other wandered ahead, kisses between mom and dad, and all of those tiny expressions you couldn’t plan even if you tried.

Because these are the things I want you to remember.

Not whether everyone looked at the camera at the exact same second, but how small they were in your arms. The way they reached for you. The way your family felt in this exact season of life.

Fall at Mount Rainier

Mount Rainier is beautiful year-round, but fall might be one of my favorite seasons to photograph here.

The deep reds, burnt oranges and golden tones against the evergreens are unreal—and paired with the soft evening light and mountains in the distance, the entire session felt almost cinematic.

Their outfits couldn’t have worked better either. The girls’ deep burgundy dresses against the fall foliage, mom’s soft cream dress, and dad’s earthy plaid brought everything together without feeling overly coordinated.

It felt warm. Nostalgic. A little wild.

Exactly what fall in Washington should feel like.

Your Family Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect for Beautiful Photos

If you’re worried your kids won’t sit still, won’t smile, or might decide halfway through the session that they’re completely over family pictures , I promise, that’s okay.

Let them move.

Let them explore.

Pick them up. Snuggle them. Chase them. Kiss their cheeks.

My job isn’t to photograph a perfectly behaved family. It’s to photograph your family, the connection, the chaos, the tenderness and all the little pieces of this season that are going to change before you know it.

Because someday, these won’t just be pretty photographs from Mount Rainier.

They’ll be proof of what life looked like when your babies were still small enough to carry.
